Receipts Could Circle Sweden Seven Times — Now Caspeco and Kivra Are Making Them Digital
Every week, more than 1.5 million receipts are printed in restaurants using point-of-sale systems from Caspeco and Trivec. Over the course of a year, that amounts to nearly 19,000 km (11,800 miles) of paper — enough to circle Sweden’s entire border almost seven times. Now, a new partnership with Kivra makes it possible to replace paper receipts with digital receipts directly within the checkout flow.
From Kiruna in the north to southern Sweden, receipts are printed every day in thousands of restaurants, bars, and cafés. In total, this includes approximately 2,650 businesses and around 8,500 cash registers.
Together, they generate more than 80 million receipts every year — receipts that are often printed, torn off, and in many cases discarded immediately.
Now, that can change.
Through the integration with Kivra, restaurants and cafés using Caspeco and Trivec can send receipts directly to the guest’s digital mailbox, eliminating the need for staff to print and handle paper receipts.
This means:
- less time spent at the checkout
- fewer interruptions in the service flow
- no need to replace receipt rolls
- and a smoother experience for both staff and guests
“This is not just about reducing paper consumption — it’s about simplifying everyday operations in an industry where every second counts. Less time spent at the register means more time for guests and a smoother workflow throughout the entire business,” says Mattias Laurentz Johansson, CEO of Caspeco.
The restaurant industry is one of the most demanding environments when it comes to payments. Queues, table service, and high-paced operations require everything to work quickly and seamlessly.
Digital receipts make the payment experience smoother by removing a step from every transaction and collecting everything directly on the customer’s phone. Guests gain a better overview of their purchases afterward, easier management of expenses and business entertainment costs, and no longer need to keep track of paper receipts.
“We want the POS system to work in the background and make it easy to deliver great service. Digital receipts are a natural step in that direction,” says Mattias Laurentz Johansson.
“Caspeco reaches a large share of Sweden’s restaurant industry, and we are delighted to work together to make digital receipts simpler and more accessible for both businesses and guests,” says Henrik Lönnevi, CEO of Kivra.
At the same time, the impact on paper consumption and the environment is significant. If all the receipts currently being printed were laid end to end, they would stretch almost seven times around Sweden’s entire border or equal a journey from Kiruna to Ystad more than twelve times.
